 DIY Wooden Catapult Assembly Instructions

Welcome, makers and future engineers!

🎉 Thank you for choosing our DIY Wooden Catapult—an exciting STEM project designed for curious minds of all ages. Building your own laser-cut catapult is not only a rewarding hands-on activity, but also a wonderful way to learn about physics, mechanics, and engineering principles in action.

These easy-to-follow instructions will guide you step-by-step from unboxing your kit to launching your first projectile. We recommend setting aside a comfortable workspace and gathering all the components before starting. 🪑

📝 Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions

  1. Organize Your Parts:
Carefully remove all laser-cut wooden pieces from the sheets.
Lay out all components and verify that all parts are present.
  2. Assemble the Base Frame:
Identify the two side panels and the base panel.
Align the side panels perpendicular to the base panel, ensuring that the slots and tabs fit snugly.
Insert the crossbeams into the corresponding slots on the side panels to provide structural support.
Secure all joints with wood glue if desired, and allow to dry.
  3. Construct the Launch Arm:
Locate the two arm pieces and the basket component.
Glue the two arm pieces together, aligning them precisely.
Attach the basket to the end of the arm, ensuring it is securely fixed.
  4. Install the Pivot Mechanism:
Insert the dowel or axle through the designated holes in the side panels.
Mount the launch arm onto the dowel, ensuring it pivots freely.
Secure the dowel in place, making sure the arm can move without obstruction.
  5. Attach the Tension System:
Loop rubber bands through the designated slots or hooks on the base frame.
Connect the other ends of the rubber bands to the launch arm, creating tension.
Adjust the rubber bands to achieve the desired launching force.
  6. Final Adjustments and Testing:
Ensure all parts are securely assembled and that the launch arm moves smoothly.
Place a small projectile in the basket.
Pull back the launch arm to the desired angle and release to test the catapult.
Make any necessary adjustments to improve performance.

⚠️ Safety Precautions

  • Always supervise children during assembly and use.
  • Ensure the catapult is used in a safe environment, away from breakable objects.
  • Do not aim at people or animals.
